RV-10 Project

    Hi 582 members.


    I purchased a Vans RV-10 empennage kit in November of 21 and have been making steady progress. I've completed the vertical stabilizer, rudder and now starting to rivet the horizontal stabilizer. If anyone is interested in following along, I'm keeping a photo log here.


    I would be happy to have anyone out to the workshop who is interested in checking it out and would welcome your guidance and advice as I continue building. Thanks to Mike Whitescarver RV-8 and Tony Kirk RV-7 who have provided initial guidance.


    Every day is a new learning experience.

    Mr. Woodward sir, Wow!  You certainly did jump in head first!  I like to see that, less talk and more action.  The RV-10 is a good choice, lots of support.  Let me be the first to ask you, as if you already haven't been asked this question, how long will it take you to finish it?  If it is a quick build which I'm sure it is, it shouldn't take long at all...

    Mary-Charles has been supportive so far :) She likes checking the work since she'll be flying in it. 


    I'm good with a builders meet up. Let's wait until it gets warmer. Plan on a cookout in the driveway in front of the shop.


    As far as timeline. More focused on making steady progress vs targeting a finish date. So far I've been able to average 15-20 hours a week. Should be able to get through it in a reasonable amount of time at that pace. It is not a quick build. Hoping within 4-5 years.


    Planning on Air Venture again so I can start looking at all of the choices ahead and get ideas from other builders.

    Looking good!  Great photos documenting your progress.  You have the right attitude.  Keep plugging away on a regular basis and don't give up.  Before you know it you'll have completed empennage, then wings, then fuselage, and you'll be ready for paint.  Takes time, but it will be well worth it.  Any time you need assistance, don't be afraid to ask.  There is a lot of talented people in the chapter available to lend a hand when needed.

    Hi David.


    I had been building an RV-7, but stopped do to health issues.  Wings were completed and I was working the fuselage.  I would love to see your progress and offer any assistance you might need.  Let me know.

    Pick a day that works for you David and I will try to be there with Karl and whomever else shows up.  I think we used to do builder's meetings on a Thursday evening but it doesn't matter to me.  Karl is retired like me so we can both show up and tell you what you are doing wrong, how great we are, and then ask you, "how much longer before it is done?" :)

    Would welcome a builder meet up at my place. Next Thursday work? You can generally find me plugging away on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.


    Current status. The tailcone was assembled, and match drilled, and is now disassembled, deburred, dimpled and is being primed so I can cleco it back together and start riveting.

    The vertical stabilizer, rudder, horizontal stabilizer, elevators and pitch trim tabs are complete and ready for Bill's sign-off :) I have a delivery window of July 22-August 22 for my wing kit. Anyone wanting to stop over any night is welcome. You can grab my mobile number from my member profile and ring anytime.
