WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO LET US KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND MEETINGS!

A Welcome to 2026. As many of you already know, there’s a new sheriff in town! Mike Whitescarver has taken over the presidential duties at EAA 582, and he has plans! Mike plans for 2026 includes bringing back some of the programs that went by the wayside after Covid. Regular monthly meetings, builder’s meetings, breakfasts, and so much more. One of the hardest parts of planning and executing these programs is knowing how much food to prepare, how many seats to set up, how many beverages to buy and how many program copies to make. You don’t want to run out, so you over prepare, buy too much food and make too many copies. Unfortunately, a lot of times this creates a lot of waste. When programs are announced, I promise to always give you an easy way to let us know if you are coming. Most times all you have to do is reply to the Weekly Flyer. Simply hit reply to the email and say, “I’m coming” or “I’m coming with my wife and or kids or I’m bringing a friend”. Even if you just think you are coming, let us know! Having some kind of idea of how many folks are coming will help us make these events better and will reduce waste.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PAYING YOUR DUES

Each month you probably sit down, like I do, to pay your monthly bills. Gas, electricity, water, possibly rent and other bills that make up your monthly cost of living. On top of your normal bills, you sometime have others. Maybe your hot water tank needed replacement, or your furnace needed repair. Your lawn mower may need an oil change or new blades, or a faucet needs to be replaced. The list goes on.

Then there are the store items. Paper towels and toilet paper, you may buy bottled water or cleaning supplies. If you like to work in your garage, as I do, you may buy new tools or have older tools that need repair. The list goes on……

EAA Chapter 582 is no different. We have expenses as well. Rent, electric, gas and water bills, repair bills and other expenses. We pay for those expenses with dues and donations. That’s how we pay for the opportunity to do the things we do at the airport.

Our annual dues are $50. That hasn’t changed in a long time. Trust me when I tell you, especially considering the facility we have and the things we do, it’s cheap! I belong to several other clubs and other organizations for my various hobbies; most are several times that amount!

If you have paid your dues, thank you for supporting your chapter!

If you haven’t……

We have a system that automatically notifies you when your membership is up for renewal. We ask that you please pay them promptly. If you haven’t paid dues for a while, please pay them. It’s how our chapter survives.

Paying your dues is easy! They can be paid RIGHT HERE online.

Or simply write a check and give it to one of our chapter officers or board members.

I also encourage those that attend our events, like the Hangin’ at the Hangar weekly cookouts, CAR’S, PLANE’S & COFFEE, pancake breakfasts, or any of our events to please utilize the donation jars we set out at each event. That money is what keeps those events going!

Thank you,

Joe Deaton

EAA 582 MEMBERS HAVE FLOWN OVER 12,000 YOUNG EAGLES!

EAA Air Academy

One of the main objectives of EAA Chapter 582 is to educate and introduce aviation to young adults.  We do this with your membership support and our Young Eagles Program.

By various activities throughout the year, the Chapter is able to send teenagers to an aviation based, science camp offered by the EAA Air Academy in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The week long sessions are divided into 4 different age groups and maturity levels.  The camps are intended for students that have expressed an interest in aviation and would like to learn more.

If you are a Chapter 582 member and know of a teenager you feel might benefit from such an experience, we would like to hear from you.

If you are interested in becoming a co-sponsor with the Chapter in sending a worthy candidate to camp, we would like to hear from you too.

You can learn more about this program, if you visit the EAA, Young Eagles Air Academy website at:

http://www.youngeagles.org/programs/airacademy/classoverview.asp

This is a wonderful program the Chapter works hard to provide to young students.  Even if you personally do not know of a candidate for aviation camp but would like to become involved in our Air Academy selection and nomination process, please email:[email protected]

This is just another way of getting involved with the Chapter, while helping to provide a lasting memory for a teen.

ABOUT OUR CHAPTER

We have been around since 1977 and our purpose is to foster interest, promote safety, and provide educational opportunities in matters related to aviation within our community.

In 2006 we realized our dream and built the facility at KTDZ. It features a modern learning library, a well equipped shop, and adequate hangar space for completing projects. Click below to view a Youtube video about it.

We have also developed a "Flight Plan," to help us stay focused on our purpose and balanced. This ensures that each activity or project supports other aspects of the club. Click on the thumbnail below to view a downloadable PDF.

Did You Know?

Email:
  • You can now contact and send an email directly to another member from this website?  From the "Members Directory" tab above, click on the name of the member you choose to contact and type away.

Photo Albums:  Every Member now has a Photo Album of their own!
  • That's right, as many pictures as you want, any time you want.  Create up to 5 folder of your own.  Pictures of your airplane or pictures of the airplane you're building.  Maybe you would like to share photos from your trip to Alaska.... or the Bahamas.  Simply click on the "Members"tab above, click on "Edit my Member profile" and follow the edit prompts to your Member Profile page.  Click on "Member Photo Album" and create!  Upload you photos and share your experience with whom ever you choose.  It's that simple!
Peddler's Forum:
  • Lonnie Price has already sold a radio off our new "Peddler's Forum".  Simply click on the "Forum" tab above and follow the prompts to create a listing.  You can even include a picture with your listing....  follow the step by step instructions and your done.  It's easy.. And the best part is.......  it's free for members!  Not only will chapter members be able to view your listing but anyone doing a search of the web will find it too.  As a matter of fact, Lonnie sold his radio to someone outside the chapter in just this manner.  It’s fun.  Check it out!

There is a difference between a "Forum" and a "Blog".

  • A Forum is a place where you can go and write a comment on a topic or give your opinion.  You will find a number of them on our website, all of which are available from the "Forum" tab above.  For the most part a Forum is considered more conversational than a Blog.

The format of a Forum is usually light and general banter about a given topic.  Someone starts the conversation or forum by throwing out a comment about said topic.  Others read the posting and comment back as to their feelings.

A Blog on the other hand, is usually considered more of a "statement" by the author of the Blog.  Depending upon how the blog has been set up, will dictate where the reader will be able to comment, or not, as to what has been posted.

You can get a brief synopsis of all the recent Forum activity..

  • By simply clicking on the main "Forum" tab in the black selection box just above the Welcome banner at the top of this page.  From there you can make further selections of the forum you choose to read and comment on.

You can subscribe to a "Forum"?

  • That's right, the website will notify you every time someone makes a new entry on a forum that you like to follow.  Let's pretend you would like to know every time someone lists a new item on the "Peddler Forum"....or makes a new entry on the "News and Chapter Business" forum.   If you subscribe to a forum you will receive an email each time new information is added.

Instead of getting an email every time something changes on the website.... you can limit your email, but still stay in touch with Chapter happenings by only subscribing to the Forums you choose.

Oh, you may not want to follow every forum on the 582 Website...  so only subscribe to the ones that interest you.  Let's just say you would like to follow the progress on the Chapter Flaire project.... you may even choose to make a comment about the last entry.  Simply find the "Flaire Forum" on this page, click on it and magically you will be at the "Flaire Forum"   In the upper right hand corner of the page you will see blue text saying, "subscribe", click on the text and you're done.  You are in touch wilth all the latest happenings and commentary as updates get posted.

P.S. Don't be afraid..... You can unsubscribe just as easily
