Matthew Curcio is an engineer, pilot, and aircraft builder based in Orange County, California. A Toledo, Ohio native with no aviation background in the family, Matthew discovered flying through paramotoring while earning his ME degree from the University of Toledo (2013). He earned his Sport Pilot license in the Pietenpol through EAA Chapter 582 and The Toledo Buzzards Light Sport Club, which became a formative source of mentorship in both flying and building. He went on to build an Aventura II amphibian and acquire a Q200. Through a chance encounter at Oshkosh, he took a role at Scaled Composites as flight controls lead on the Stratolaunch "Roc" carrier aircraft. He later joined Anduril Industries, leading engineering on the Roadrunner CUAS weapon system from preliminary design through fielding and now leads as Chief Engineer on the FQ-44 "Fury" — the world's first autonomous fighter jet, currently under production contract with the USAF. An accomplished aviator and maintainer with 2,600 total hours, he holds CFI, tailwheel and seaplane ratings, has landed in all 50 states, flown to Point Barrow, Alaska, and founded a flying club at KSNA with 3 aircraft and 80 members. Matthew is most proud of the family he has built along the way with his wife Laura, their two kids Leyla and Levi, and puppy dog Pippa. In the future he is excited to continue to grow his career, flying club and eventually take a couple of years off work to explore the world in a catamaran sailboat.
